Position Description

The primary purpose of this job is to independently perform a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, selecting, shipping, pickup, and delivery of general or specialized bulk materials and equipment. The job requires the use of a forklift, trucks, and light motor vehicles.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Performs a broad range of standard receiving assignments. Verifies shipments by checking shipping documents. Recognizes annotations that indicate "Classified", "Repairable", "Pilferable", or material requiring "person-to-person" handling. Exercises strict controls during receipt, storage, shipment, and delivery. Performs kind-count-condition inspections on incoming material. Matches specific item identification by name, stock number, letter, code, quantity or unit of issue on containers. Unloads incoming shipments, scans bar codes or keys receipt information into automated record system. Groups items together based on receiving voucher information or segregates items according to such factors as condition and type of transaction. Builds pallet loads to facilitate storage and/or delivery to customer. Reports tampered of broken seals on containers or damaged or deteriorating incoming shipments. Transport materials from receiving areas to storage and/or to customer. Unloads incoming shipments using common hand tools and material handling equipment up to 10,000 pounds capacity. Counts and annotates types and quantities of items and appropriately signs receiving documents. Annotates changes on Bill of Lading as necessary. Uses computer terminals to upload receiving data to applicable purchase orders and packing slips to prepare packages for customer delivery. Repalletizes and builds pallet loads to facilitate storage and/or customer deliver. Uses banding, stretch wraps or other appropriate methods to secure materials. Performs inquiries and/or keys receipt information into automated record system. Alerts appropriate authority of materials having serious discrepancies. Transports or forwards materials from receiving areas to storage and/or customer.

Maintains records and documents actions. Uses computer terminals, optical readers, bar code wands, scanners, etc., as available, to input supply data such as nomenclature and description of changes (amongst others). Enters or retrieves data via a computer terminal into or from automated warehouse record system. Processes material received without documentation by obtaining and inputting required information into automated system. Prepares accurate, complete and up-to-date records of actions taken and assures documentation is properly signed and coordinated in a timely manner. Maintains integrity and accuracy of data base information through accurate input and efficient operation of automated equipment. Performs material handling duties, including the use of tools and other equipment in a safe manner. Utilizes safe practices/procedures and complies with Page 1 of 5 established safety rules and regulations. Safeguards material, items, and/or equipment and remains alert to challenge unauthorized personnel. Performs clean-up duties, such as cleaning and dusting bins, cutting box tops and transporting empty boxes to recycle bins, sweeping, straightening, and lining up property in the assigned area. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Operates equipment in a safe manner applying established safety rules and regulations to minimize minor violations and to avoid major violations due to employee error or negligence. Adheres to safety and security procedures and regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner. 25% Maintains Quality Control (QC) by ensuring that services and outputs of the warehouse are in with laws, regulations, standards, specifications or other requirements. Gather and review narrative and/or statistical data to prepare reports. Drafts written quality or inspection procedures as requested by team lead or supervisor. Analyzes quality data to detect unsatisfactory quality trends or weaknesses in the production system. Verifies by test or inspection, using sampling inspection or intensive product inspection techniques, that products/services comply with requirements prior to issuance/acceptance. Identifies inadequacies in work products or services and coordinates corrective action. Computes data, summarizes results, and prepares reports. Responses and resolves customer complaints and deficiency reports, and provides identification of causes to appropriate authorities. Reads and applies technical data such as performance standards, performance work statement specifications, or technical manuals.

Operates fork lift trucks, pallet jacks, and dollies to move, stack and unstack, load and unload, bin, and position material. Maneuvers forklift in confined places over wood, concrete or similar type floors. Complies with operating and safety requirements to prevent damage to government property or injury to others. Utilizes computer equipment to facilitate the various phases of receiving, storing, and retrieving of items. Loads and unloads cargo, ensuring proper arrangement and weight distribution, to prevent shifting and damage due to movement or falling items. Drives one or more types of trucks, such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less, on public roads at highway speeds. Picks up excess items from base customers and processes such property for delivery to the DLA Disposition Services site or designated contractor. Delivers items to work sites. Checks routine items on the vehicle checklist (such as oil, tire pressure, windshield washer fluids, power steering fluids, gas, etc.). Keeps assigned vehicles in good appearance and assures it is in top-notch condition for periodic vehicle inspections. Operates vehicles in accordance with established procedures and laws. Adheres to maintenance and inspection schedules. Completes appropriate forms, such as trip tickets, preventive maintenance records, and accident/incident reports in a timely manner.
