Position Description

The incumbent is a Senior Project Leader and Scientist at the Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility (NCTRF), Natick, MA. This position is responsible for providing expert level project leader expertise to advanced projects and investigations in the specialized fields of biomedical, mechanical, and fire science engineering or related fields. The incumbent plays a key role in the efficient operation of NCTRF's testing and evaluation facilities and equipment.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Applies the concepts of textile technology, textile science, biomedical, mechanical, and fire science engineer; or related fields in studies aimed at the development of new, improved, or specialized protective textiles, protective ensembles, life support equipment, micro-climate conditioning systems, or test and evaluation equipment and methods.

Lead and support the development, reviewing, and modifying government specifications.

Outstandning communication skills.

Serves as a project lead in the formulation, planning, organizing, and conducting projects of high visibility.

Strong critical thinker with a solution-oriented approach. Independently analyze information and made recommendations.

Strong time management, planning and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

Collaborative working style and the ability to balance the internal needs of the organization with those of external partners/customers.

Analyzes information and data and assesses status of testing as it relates to programs, projects and taskings.

Operates stadnard and developmental test equipment and instrumentation to obtain data in support of developmental projects, and programs and utilizes data acquisition systems to support facility efforts.

Manages all functions performed by NCTRF's various testing and evaluation laboratories (Bioplysical, Flame/Thermal, and Textile Performance).

The incumbent recommends initiation of studies, tasks, and research opportunities; develops proposals and other programmatic documentation; and assists senior leadership team to see additional laboratory test and evaluation opportunities from the Navy, other services, other government agencies, indistry and academia.
